Promote organic farming to boost soil health, says Mandaviya

The Prime Minister’s Program for Restoration, Awareness, Nurturing and Improvement of Fertility of Mother Earth has been launched to encourage states to promote balanced use of alternative and chemical fertilizers, said Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, on Friday.

Addressing a virtual meeting of agriculture ministers of states and union territories, Mandaviya appealed to them to jointly contribute towards the promotion of organic farming for preservation of soil health.

According to an official statement, the minister informed the states that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by PM has approved a special package of innovative schemes for farmers with a total outlay of over three lakh crore rupees. The package focuses on the overall welfare and economic well-being of farmers by promoting sustainable agriculture, he said. These initiatives will enhance farmers’ income, strengthen natural and organic farming, revive soil productivity and ensure food security at the same time, he added. Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and agriculture ministers of more than 20 states and union territories participated in the meeting.
