Actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu recently spoke out about pay parity in the film industry, stating that people should pay her willingly and she “shouldn’t have to beg for it.” In a new interview with Pinkvilla, Samantha explained that for a woman in the industry, it’s not just enough to stretch your capabilities to your limits, but that they need to do a little more as it’s just that much harder.
Samantha made her film debut in 2010 with Ye Maaya Chesave and has since starred in a number of successful films including Eega, Attarintiki Daredi, Manam, and Kaathuvaakula Rendu Kaadhal. She has also recently been seen in the Telugu film Yashoda, and will next be seen in Shaakuntalam and Kushi.
The actor has made it clear that she’s not fighting to be paid equally, but instead wants it to be a byproduct of her hard work and success. She stated that people should just come forward and say, “Yes, we want to pay you this much.” Samantha emphasized that pay parity should be a given and that actors, especially women, shouldn’t have to beg for it.
Samantha’s quote in her bio, “Whatever your capabilities, you must stretch them to the limit and a little beyond,” reflects her belief that she should work hard to achieve success and hopes that pay parity will be a natural outcome of that success.
Samantha has an upcoming film, Kushi, alongside Vijay Deverakonda which is set to release on September 1. The film is a Telugu-language family entertainer and is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and directed by Shiva Nirvana. She also has the Indian adaptation of the international series Citadel in the pipeline alongside Varun Dhawan. The action-packed series has been created by Raj and DK.
In addition to her successful film career, Samantha has become an influential voice for women’s rights and equality in the industry. She has been recognized for her work in film and advocacy with numerous awards and accolades.
