Tarzan fame Hemant Birje says Mithun Chakraborty helped him ‘like a brother’ when Dharmendra, Govinda were insecure of him: ‘I did 20 films with him’

Actor Hemant Birje, who became a popular name in the Hindi film industry after playing the role of Tarzan in the 1985 film Adventures of Tarzan, recently opened up about actors being insecure about his looks back in the 1980s. He revealed he lost many projects as many actors, including Govinda and Dharmendra, refused to share the screen with him. But Mithun Chakraborty was the only one who took Birje as his younger brother and starred with him in as many as 20 films.

Birje, in a new interview, shared he had signed 107 films after Adventures of Tarzan became a super hit. But soon after, film producers told him to tone down his body as a few actors refused to work with him. Filmmaker Abu Malik gave him the signing amount of Rs 21,000 and told him he is doing his film Zordaar. But, a few days later, he was removed from the film as one of the actors refused to work with him. Birje experienced similar incidents quite a few times.

But it was actor Mithun Chakraborty who was not insecure about Birje’s popularity or looks. “I did 20 films with him. He is a very nice, good-hearted man. He is very nice. Even Naseer bhai (Naseeruddin Shah) and Shah Rukh Khan are very nice,” Birje told Bollywood Thikana.

He added, “Main kuch bhi karun na, he would say, ‘hum tumhara bada bhai hai na, humko batayega nahi, hum dada hai na tera (Whatever I would do, he would say, ‘I am your elder brother, you won’t tell me?’)

Birje also recounted his experience of working on filmmaker Arjun Hingorani’s film Kaun Kare Kurbanie, co-starring Dharmendra and Govinda.

Speaking of working with Govinda, he said, We did a film called Kaun Kare Kurbanie which was directed by Arjun Hingorani. When I reached the set on the first day, he (Dharmendra) looked at me and called Arjun. He told him, ‘ye keda hero le aaya, iski height bhi hai, body bhi hai, ye dikhta bhi acha hai, main iske saath dialogue nahi bolunga (Who have you got? He has a good height and body, he looks good. I won’t say dialogues with him).”

Arjun convinced Dharmendra by telling him that he was also picked up by the filmmaker from a railway station and made into a hero. “Then Govinda started throwing tantrums. He said, ‘He won’t push me.’ A lot of times the shooting was stopped,” recalled Birje.

However, Hemant Birje failed to register a hit to his name after Adventures of Tarzan. His last Hindi film is Garv: Pride and Honour (2004) where he played the role of Majid Khan.

Natural Infection Lowers Risk of Hospitalisation or Death by 88% for at Least 10 Months: Lancet Study

A recent study published in The Lancet medical journal suggests that natural infection with COVID-19 provides significant protection against severe disease, hospitalization, and death for at least 10 months after the initial infection. The study, which was conducted in Israel, analyzed data from more than 800,000 individuals who were tested for COVID-19 between June 2020 and January 2021. Of these, approximately 13% had tested positive for the virus during the first wave of the pandemic. Researchers found that those who had been infected with COVID-19 were significantly less likely to be reinfected with the virus during the second wave of the pandemic compared to those who had not been previously infected. Specifically, individuals with prior infection had an 84% lower risk of becoming reinfected with COVID-19 compared to those who had never been infected. Moreover, the study revealed that individuals with natural infection had an 88% lower risk of hospitalization and death due to COVID-19 during the second wave of the pandemic compared to those who had never been infected. This protection persisted for at least 10 months after the initial infection.
