Telugu Desam Party chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu has reached out to the External Affairs Minister, S Jaishankar, seeking Central assistance in bringing back the body of Potti Rajesh Kumar, a software engineer from Andhra Pradesh who drowned in Florida on July 1. Rajesh, who hailed from Addanki in Baptla district lost his life while attempting to rescue his son at Jacksonville Beach in Florida.

According to reports, Kumar, aged 42, was living in the Bridge Water community in Florida, along with his wife and two children. While on a short vacation during the July 4 long weekend, Rajesh’s son ventured too far into the sea while swimming. Without hesitation, Rajesh jumped in to save his son, but both were swept away by the strong currents. Despite managing to save his son, Rajesh lost consciousness during the rescue and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

“They were evacuated in a chopper to a hospital but while doctors were able to revive my nephew, Rajesh did not respond,” his brother Vijay Kumar said.

He added that Rajesh worked with a startup for the past 2-3 years.

Naidu’s letter to Jaishankar included Rajesh’s passport number and contact information, urging for swift assistance in repatriating the engineer’s body to his native place for the last rites.

With Rajesh’s family seeking help to bring his body back to Addanki at the earliest, the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) has also established contact with them to provide support and coordination during this difficult time.
