The state higher education department Tuesday said it has received 49,662 applications till date for 28,342 first-year college seats in Tripura.
From this academic year, the department will implement the New Education policy in all 25 government colleges and Maharaja Bir Bikram University in the state.
As per the new policy, the colleges will offer four-year undergrad courses.
“If any student leaves the course after one year for some reason, he could get admission to any college in the second year. If he leaves after two years, he would get a diploma and if he leaves after three years, he would get a degree. If he completes four years, then he will pass graduation,” Higher Education Secretary Sharadindu Choudhury said while addressing media persons at the Civil Secretariat in Agartala Tuesday evening.
The state has spent Rs 8.80 crore for the renovation of Maharaja Bir Bikram College, he added.
Director of Higher Education NC Sharma said the merit list will be published on June 30. If any seat is left vacant, another list will be published on July 6.
“There are many students who could not apply due to various reasons. We shall start spot round admission from July 19 and they could take admission in different colleges on the basis of their merit,” he further said.
