Ahead of Lok Sabha polls, former Trinamool Congress president Asish Lal Singha and former Congress general secretary Prashanta Bhattacharjee Wednesday switched over to the BJP inspired by the “developmental initiatives taken up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi”.
Tripura’s Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee and other senior BJP leaders welcomed them to the party and handed over the party flag to them.
Ashish Lal Singha, who is the son of Tripura’s first chief minister the late Sachindra Lal Singha, expressed his discontent towards TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee for her alleged cold attitude towards the local leaders.
Singha said former CM Sudhir Ranjan Majumder who had started the Tripura unit of the TMC failed to meet Banerjee in Bengal even after waiting for a week. Similarly, two former TMC presidents of the state Surajit Datta and Ratan Chakraborty also had to come across similar bitter experiences.
“She didn’t meet even the candidates during her visit to the state prior to Assembly polls,” he said.

He alleged that the party did not contest all the 60 seats in the last Assembly elections to favour other political parties.
Another former TMC president and ex-MLA Subal Bhowmik also joined the BJP last year after the Bengal-based party failed to elicit much support from voters in the Assembly by-elections.
Prashanta Bhattacharjee alleged that the seat-sharing adjustment done between CPM and Congress for the Assembly polls was for the personal benefit of Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman.
