This is the 24-year-old musician’s third single and is inspired by the Y2K aesthetic
Singer-songwriter Aruna Chaudhuri has released her third single titled Real World. A song, which according to Aruna, attempts to explore the “inherent lack of respect from certain authority figures, and patronizing comments from the cynics of our world”, comes after her sophomore release, Confessions, which had released in March.
The UK-based singer, 24, is the daughter of novelist Amit Chaudhuri and has penned this pop track with a Y2K aesthetic in mind – the cultural shift that happened in the late 90s with the emergence of the internet and continued into the 2000s. Y2K was all about heavily synthesized tunes and fashion that was shiny and puffed up with fur and everything pink. Aruna, who grew up in these years, draws heavily from the retrofuturist parts of pop culture.
Aruna’s debut single “Selfish” and the more recent “Confessions” explore the struggles of navigating relationships as a young adult. The song is available now on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, and other streaming platforms.
