Born in New Delhi in 1959, Vandana Luthra was inspired by her mother, an ayurvedic doctor running a charitable initiative called Amar Jyoti. This upbringing instilled in her a passion for making a positive impact on people’s lives. After completing her graduation from the Polytechnic for Women in New Delhi, Luthra traveled to Europe to gain expertise in beauty, food, nutrition, and skincare.

In 1989, Vandana Luthra founded VLCC, initially a beauty and wellness service center in Safdarjung Development Area, New Delhi. The center focused on dietary modification and exercise regimen-based weight management programs. Over the years, VLCC has expanded its services to include weight management, beauty programs, advanced dermatology, and cosmetology solutions.

With a strong national and international presence, VLCC operates in 326 locations across 153 cities and 13 countries in South Asia, South East Asia, the GCC Region, and East Africa. With a dedicated workforce of over 4,000 professionals, including nutrition counselors, medical experts, physiotherapists, cosmetologists, and beauty professionals, VLCC holds a significant market share in the Indian beauty and wellness industry.

Under its subsidiary, VLCC Personal Care Limited, the company operates a product business and owns GMP-certified manufacturing plants in Haridwar, India, and Singapore. VLCC manufactures and markets 170 hair care, skin care, and body care products, along with functional and fortified foods consumed in their wellness centers. These products are also available through various outlets in India, the GCC region, South East Asia, and e-commerce channels.

In addition to its beauty and wellness services, VLCC operates vocational training institutes known as the VLCC Institute of Beauty & Nutrition. With 73 campuses in 55 cities across India and one in Nepal, these institutes have become the country’s largest chain of vocational education academies in the beauty and nutrition training segment. Annually, they train nearly 10,000 students across multiple disciplines.

Vandana Luthra’s commitment to social welfare is reflected in her involvement with various philanthropic endeavors. She serves as the Vice Chairperson of the NGO Khushii, which implements projects such as telemedicine centers, a remedial school with a midday meal facility, and a vocational training facility. Luthra is also a member of the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga and has actively participated in committees formed by India’s Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.

Throughout her illustrious career, Vandana Luthra has received numerous accolades for her entrepreneurship and contributions to the industry. In 2013, she was honored with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian honor, for her outstanding contribution to trade and industry. Luthra has also received prestigious awards such as the Asian Business Leaders Forum Trailblazer Award in 2012 and the Enterprise Asia Women Entrepreneur of the Year Award in 2010.

Luthra’s accomplishments have gained international recognition as well. She was ranked 26th in Forbes Asia’s 2016 list of 50 Power Businesswomen in the Asia Pacific region. She has also been featured in Fortune magazine’s annual listing of the ’50 Most Powerful Women in Business in India’ for five consecutive years from 2011 to 2015.

Beyond her entrepreneurial endeavors, Vandana Luthra is also a published author. She has authored two books, “Complete Fitness Program” and “A Good Life,” which offer insights into wellness and fitness.
