In a bid to elevate passenger experience and operational efficiency, Indian Railways is set to implement a groundbreaking cleanliness initiative for its prestigious Vande Bharat Express trains, drawing inspiration from Japan’s renowned “7-minute miracle” of cleaning bullet trains. Beginning October 1, 2023, passengers can witness the unveiling of the Indian Railways’ own “14-minute miracle” cleaning process, designed to transform the cleanliness standards on these high-speed trains.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will inaugurate this ambitious initiative at the Delhi Cantt railway station as part of the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign.

The Vande Bharat 14-Minute Miracle Cleaning Initiative

The innovative Vande Bharat 14-minute miracle cleaning initiative represents a significant leap forward in the cleaning processes employed for Vande Bharat Express trains. It aims to enhance efficiency by drastically reducing the time required to prepare the trains for their next journey.

A railway official, in conversation with TOI, explained that the objective is to streamline and reorient the cleaning procedures for Vande Bharat Express trains. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the trains are cleaned and prepared for their next departure within a record 14 minutes.

Historically, it took approximately 45 minutes to clean a Vande Bharat train comprehensively. However, with the introduction of this novel approach, the cleaning process will be transformed into a well-coordinated effort, with three cleaning staff members assigned to each coach. Their synchronized efforts will ensure that the train is not only clean but also ready for its next journey in just 14 minutes.

The official emphasized that the new approach would eliminate any redundant efforts and maximize efficiency throughout the cleaning process. This strategic overhaul is poised to revolutionize the cleaning standards of Vande Bharat Express trains.

Drawing Inspiration from Japan’s ‘7-Minute Miracle’

The inspiration for this remarkable transformation stems from Japan’s world-renowned “7-minute miracle,” a cleaning procedure adopted for their bullet trains. Japan’s bullet trains are celebrated not only for their punctuality and speed but also for the impressive efficiency with which they are cleaned between journeys.

Indian Railways, known for its commitment to continuous improvement, has taken a page from Japan’s playbook to introduce this 14-minute miracle cleaning initiative. By emulating Japan’s success in maintaining high cleanliness standards in a minimal timeframe, Indian Railways aims to elevate passenger satisfaction levels and ensure that Vande Bharat Express trains are consistently ready for service.

A Global Quest for Excellence

When asked about the significance of this initiative, the railway official reiterated that Indian Railways is dedicated to constantly enhancing its operations and aims to achieve global best practices. The adoption of Japan’s cleaning miracle and the development of the 14-minute cleaning process exemplify the organization’s commitment to excellence.

Indian Railways, a massive and intricate network, continues to invest in modernization and innovation to meet the evolving needs and expectations of passengers. The introduction of this streamlined cleaning process for Vande Bharat Express trains reflects the organization’s dedication to delivering world-class service.

As the Indian Railways’ Vande Bharat Express trains embark on this new journey of cleanliness and efficiency, passengers can look forward to a more seamless and delightful travel experience. The 14-minute miracle cleaning initiative not only showcases Indian Railways’ commitment to progress but also its determination to set higher standards in the realm of rail travel.
