A video of an adorable baby elephant getting jealous as his keeper dotes over another elephant is going viral. The video, taken at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya, shows a young calf named Mwinzi getting in between his keeper Justus and another elephant, Rokka.
As Mwinzi head-butts Rokka aggressively and tries to get in a fight, the older elephant takes the calf’s behaviour in stride and the two separate soon after. Mwinzi was rescued under dire circumstances by Justus a year ago.
Commenting on the video of Mwinzi’s jealous outburst, an Instagram user wrote, “ It’s amazing how gentle they are with the keepers. All it takes is a little hand push and they back off but then they turn around and charge another elephant”.
Another person wrote, “Just like small children, they want all of the attention and don’t want to share with anyone else. They eventually learn that it isn’t just about one baby, they must all that their turn. Bless their beautiful heart, love them so much! ”.
After Mwinzi was found stuck in the mud in the Kimana region of Kenya on September 19, 2022, members of the Maasai community had managed to free him. They then sought the help of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
The weakened calf was shifted under a shaded tree as Justus administered IV drops to him. Mwinzi showed remarkable recovery as he gathered strength within an hour and began walking on his own. He has since been under the care of the rescue organisation before being released into the wild again.
