Escalators have become a common feature across urban infrastructure from shopping malls to public transportation hubs. However, despite their common presence, many people are not comfortable using them. Popular social media personality Luca Lobuono recently shared a clip from a social experiment that sought to see if people would be willing to help a stranger who was visibly struggling with getting on an escalator.
In the clip, a man and a young boy help the actor use the escalator by holding his hand and guiding him about when to step out. The interaction between the actor and the unsuspecting man and the boy who helped him is being widely circulated on social media.

Commenting on it, an Instagram user wrote, “This made me cry…I love the kindness at the end. I would’ve been that guy as I kno what it’s like for those who are different & may need a lil more help than what we think is normal. Too many walking around blind or with tunnel vision. They only see where they’re going & aren’t paying attention to the fact he needed someone. I’m also glad this man stopped even though he was with his family! Lead By example…thx u pops & batman!!!!!”.
Another person wrote, “Many of my children who suffer from #ASD (autism spectrum disorder) n those with #cerebralPalsy have gravitational insecurities. They fear using escalators big time. While I can’t be wither all the time as a therapist. Such gestures from common public mean a lot to them”.
