Chandrakant Patil to hostel wardens: Take up responsibility like parents

[ad_1]

Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil Wednesday said that responsibility of hostel residents should be taken up by wardens as their parents.

The minister was speaking after inaugurating a workshop for wardens of hostels run by the higher and technical education department in Mumbai.

The workshop was organised following recommendations by committee formed after the rape and murder of an 18-year-old girl in a South Mumbai hostel.

After a day-long workshop which focused on educating hostel-wardens on various aspects to assure a safe environment for student residents, the wardens are now asked to submit proposals of safety requirements at their hostels, to the department with immediate effect.

Director higher education Dr. Shailendra Deolankar, who also headed the committee which conducted the security audit of hostels, steered the workshop.
