InCore Semiconductors, a fabless-semiconductor startup focused on building RISC-V based processor solutions, has raised $3 million in a seed funding round from Sequoia Capital India. The funding will be used to strengthen the company’s product development and expand its engineering team.

Launched in 2018, the company helps its customers with processor intellectual property (IP) solutions for industrial solutions in automotive, industrial automation, and general electronics. InCore’s RISC-V based processor solutions are designed to help customers achieve better performance, energy efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

“We are excited to partner with Sequoia Capital India, who bring deep expertise in semiconductor and technology investing,” said InCore Semiconductors founder and CEO Anirban Kundu. “This investment will enable us to accelerate our product development and build a world-class engineering team to meet the growing demand for our solutions.”

The RISC-V open-source instruction set architecture has gained significant momentum in recent years, and InCore Semiconductors is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend. The company’s RISC-V based processor solutions are optimized for a wide range of applications, including automotive, industrial automation, and general electronics.

“Anirban and his team have a deep understanding of the semiconductor industry and have built a differentiated product offering in the RISC-V based processor solutions space,” said Shailesh Lakhani, managing director at Sequoia Capital India. “We are excited to partner with InCore Semiconductors as they continue to grow and develop innovative solutions for the semiconductor industry.”

InCore Semiconductors is part of a growing trend of semiconductor startups focusing on building RISC-V based processor solutions. The RISC-V Foundation, a non-profit organization that oversees the development of the RISC-V instruction set architecture, has attracted support from a wide range of companies, including Google, Western Digital, and SiFive.

The RISC-V architecture is designed to be open-source and modular, making it easier for companies to customize processors for their specific needs. This flexibility has made it an attractive alternative to proprietary architectures like ARM and x86.

The semiconductor industry is undergoing significant changes, with many companies focusing on developing specialized processors for specific applications. InCore Semiconductors is well-positioned to capitalize on this trend, with its RISC-V based processor solutions designed for a wide range of industrial applications.

InCore’s RISC-V based processor solutions are becoming increasingly popular among its customers, who are seeking to improve their system performance, reduce energy consumption, and cut down on development costs. The company has developed a range of RISC-V processors, including its flagship Icicle series, which has gained significant traction in the market.

InCore has also been working on developing RISC-V based processors for other specialized applications, such as machine learning and artificial intelligence. The company’s RISC-V processors are designed to offer high performance, energy efficiency, and flexibility, making them well-suited for a wide range of applications.

“With the increasing demand for specialized processors in various applications, we believe that InCore Semiconductors is well-positioned to address this market opportunity,” said Lakhani. “We look forward to supporting the team as they continue to build innovative solutions for the semiconductor industry.”

The startup’s success has not gone unnoticed by investors, and its latest funding round has attracted the attention of Sequoia Capital India. The venture capital firm, which has a track record of investing in successful startups such as Zomato and Byju’s, has seen the potential in InCore’s technology and its potential for growth.

With the new funding, InCore plans to expand its product portfolio, invest in research and development, and build its team to meet the growing demand for its solutions. The company also plans to expand its reach beyond India and target new markets in Asia and Europe.

The $3 million seed funding round is expected to help InCore Semiconductors accelerate its product development and expand its engineering team to meet growing demand for its solutions. With its focus on RISC-V based processor solutions for industrial applications, the company is well-positioned to take advantage of the growing trend towards specialized processors in the semiconductor industry.
