MakeMyTrip, India’s leading travel portal, has partnered with Microsoft to bring generative AI to the platform. The aim is to make travel planning more accessible and inclusive, and the first step towards this is introducing voice-assisted booking in Indian languages.

According to a press release by MakeMyTrip, the integration will use OpenAI’s generative AI tech in Azure and Azure Cognitive Services. This will allow users to receive personalised travel recommendations based on their preferences. The recommendations will include curated holiday packages based on variables such as occasion, budget, activity preferences, and time of travel.

The beta version of the integration has been introduced in English and Hindi for flights and holidays. The next stage of voice-assisted booking flow will cover other transport offerings. The feature has been embedded into the landing page of the platform and can be activated with a single click.

MakeMyTrip will rely on Azure OpenAI Service’s GPT technology to analyse specific user requirements and offer a customised and hassle-free experience. The platform will also use Microsoft’s large language models and Indic language speech models, coupled with MakeMyTrip’s natural language understanding capability and travel domain content to allow users to interact with the platform in any Indian language. Users will also be able to get summaries of hotel reviews.

Sanjay Mohan, group chief technology officer, MakeMyTrip, said, “The new update will elevate the user experience and make our platform more inclusive, accessible, and easy to navigate. The beta phase will offer us learnings to further fine-tune all use cases before rolling it out to users at scale. As such, we’ll do a very controlled roll-out of this feature with a subset of our customers.”

Sangeeta Bavi, executive director, digital natives, Microsoft India, said, “Bringing together MakeMyTrip’s expertise with Microsoft’s AI capabilities, including Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service, our collaboration will help make travel more inclusive and accessible for travellers across India, with trust and security at the core.”

MakeMyTrip is just one of many companies jumping on the generative AI bandwagon. The technology has been generating a lot of interest in tech town lately, with more and more businesses seeing the potential benefits of using AI to improve customer experience and engagement.

Generative AI is a subset of artificial intelligence that involves the use of deep learning techniques to generate content. This content can include anything from images and videos to music and text. The technology has been used in a variety of industries, from healthcare and finance to marketing and entertainment.

In the travel industry, generative AI has the potential to revolutionise the way we plan and book our trips. By analysing vast amounts of data, AI-powered platforms can provide personalised recommendations to users, taking into account their preferences, budget, and other factors. This can help users save time and money and ensure that they have the best possible travel experience.

With MakeMyTrip’s new voice-assisted booking feature, the company is taking a step towards making travel planning more accessible to everyone. By allowing users to interact with the platform in their own language, MakeMyTrip is breaking down language barriers and making it easier for people to plan and book their trips. As more and more businesses embrace generative AI, we can expect to see even more innovative solutions that improve customer experience and engagement across a range of industries.

Generative AI technology has been gaining a lot of traction lately, with various industries looking to leverage its capabilities for more personalised and seamless customer experiences. The travel industry is no exception, and MakeMyTrip’s collaboration with Microsoft is a testament to the increasing demand for voice-assisted and language-specific travel bookings.
