PV Sindhu triumphs at the Madrid Spain Masters 2023 badminton tournament, proving her worth as a two-time Olympic medallist and world No. 11 in the latest badminton rankings. The Indian badminton player displayed sheer dominance against Switzerland’s Jenjira Stadelmann, securing a comfortable win with a score of 21-10, 21-14 in just 31 minutes. This marks her second win over Stadelmann in the past month, having previously beaten the European shuttler at the Swiss Open 2023.

Sindhu expressed her delight at the victory and credited the excellent playing conditions, stating that the shuttle was a bit faster, but she and her team quickly adapted to it. She remains optimistic and hopes to maintain her momentum throughout the tournament.

Unfortunately, the same could not be said for India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, who had to retire from their match against Ayato Endo and Yuta Takei, the world No. 41 Japanese duo, due to an injury to Satwik. However, Satwik remained positive and revealed that he recently returned from an injury, and they didn’t want to risk further damage.

In the women’s doubles, India’s Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly suffered a defeat at the hands of Rena Miyaura and Ayako Sakuramoto of Japan. Meanwhile, in the men’s singles, Kidambi Srikanth and B Sai Praneeth secured hard-fought victories against Sitthikom Thammasin and Jan Louda, respectively.

In another unexpected turn of events, Aakarshi Kashyap, ranked 42nd in women’s singles, pulled off an impressive upset against Canada’s world No. 15 Michelle Li. The Indian badminton player won with a score of 12-21, 21-15, 21-18, while Ashmitha Chaliha beat France’s Leonice Huet 21-12, 22-20 in the BWF Super 300 event.

The Madrid Spain Masters 2023 badminton tournament is shaping up to be an exhilarating event, with several Indian players progressing to the next round. Malvika Bansod, Priyanshu Rajawat, and Kiran George all secured their spots in the second round of the women’s and men’s singles categories. It is a proud moment for the Indian badminton community, and we look forward to more exciting matches in the coming days.
